Sale/purchase plannings should take into consideration the following information related to the current situation in import & export logistics.
Vessels continue to disregard their published schedules because of blank sailings due to congested ports (US and oversea) combined with the steady increase of US import volumes during the past two years thus operations all over the country are deeply affected.
Repeated COVID lock-downs (mainly in Asia), labor and equipment shortage at the ports and at the rail terminals, labor strikes heavily impact the global supply chain.
Furthermore, we have seen during the past few months the abandonment of West Coast ports in favour of the ones of the Gulf and of the East Coast (from Savannah to Hailfax) by many shipping lines for their services from Asia and also from Europe thus worsening the already messy situation of the railway traffic (containers shipped from Europe to the West Coast are offloaded at Eastern ports and then forwarded to West by rail).
The descending consequences are increased terminal dwelling of the containers, severe shortage of chassis and handling equipments resulting in extended delays in pick-ups, deliveries and drayage.
A significant improvement cannot be foreseen in the near future.
