Ocean freights out of control

Posted by Davide Guarisco

Dear Valued Customer,

another major disruption is occuring to the global shipping trade because of the situation developing in Southern China ports of Yantian, Shekou and Nansha due to a large COVID outbreak.

There are more than 40 container ships anchored in open water outside terminals and more that 60 planned calls to those ports have been canceled by the major shipping Co.s.

At the moment, due to the above situation, there are more than 23’000 containers waiting to be exported, furthermore, according to the latest data from “Cntainer xChange”, these ports have been hit worst by equipment shortage.

These problems will reverberate, as a chain reaction, on all trade lines, not just to/from China.

The confluence of negative factors — soaring demand, a shortage of containers, saturated ports and too few ships and dock workers — have contributed to the squeeze on transportation capacity on every freight path.

The pain is most acutely felt on longer-distance routes, The consequence is that shippers will face long delays and higher prices for their consignments; there is no sign on sight for a quick relief.

Whoever plans to purchase/sell goods overseas   should take in high consideration risks of unreliable delivery schedules andunprecedented high freight rates.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if you wish further information.

We thank you for your attention and look forward to keep on serving your transportation needs.

Best regards

Lampo S.a.
