7.5% less global capacity in container shipping

According to data compiled by the Copenhagen-based maritime intelligence company Eesea, the global capacity in container shipping for 2020 has already been cut by 7.5% at this point in time. Shipping capacity was down by 9% in April. So far, a total of 302 out of 2,693 sailings (11%), have been cancelled in May on all the main line trades. In H1/2020, a total of 1,675 sailings (11%) have been cancelled. With regards to the alliances, the cancellation rate amounts to 13% for 2M, 17% for Ocean Alliance and 17% for THE Alliance, while only 8% of non-alliance sailings have been cancelled. (mw)
